Jude plus Seven December 31st,2001
Jude's not letting us too close yet. Can't even get in to change that blanket yet. There's seven pictured here and we're not sure if she's done quite yet. 3 tan ones on the flanks, the blonde one that sticks out: a chocolate to the right of the blonde that's blending in with Jude's fur and then two jet blacks.
Shuffled and tucked, but they're all there again. We'll get some more shots as Jude gets more at ease. We're not wanting to push her at this point.
12:00 AM January 1st, 2002 One More Time!! After doing the above pictures, I went back over to the apartment and we roused Jude up for a short walk. As we stepped out into the bitter cold (~10F) she hunched a bit and popped out the 8th puppy, another blonde one. I scooped him up quickly and got them both back inside. After letting the latest arrival get his first supper, we later coaxed Jude up again and began the clean-up. Padding things with lots of newspaper made this task a little easier. All of us (Jude, the fearsome 8, kT and I) then proceeded to snooze a bit after a long, 10 hour day of delivery. We woke up just before midnight to ring in the new year. Jude got a her first broth which seemed to perk her up a bit. I snapped a couple more pics:
They seem to be growing before our eyes. Muscle tone has increased: ears are sticking out at 90 degrees from their heads. Little yelps are getting louder as they vie for a teat.
Jude is an outstanding mother and taking a well deserved break here. She was not always aware that a new one arrived, but when pointed out to her, she'd give each a good cleaning. For some of them, there was barely enough time inbetween births to get the job done well. Most of the periods were about 25 minutes apart. The longest was an hour and fifteen minutes.
