Never the same river twice.
(Native American Saying)

It only took about one and a half inches of rain from
the previous night's storm to bring the river up to the
top of it's banks. The radical topography of this Ozark
region makes for frequent spring flash floods. This
stairway that the dogs are using continues another three
or four steps downward, and normally stops about 4 feet
above the water level. As is probably evident, I had a
rough time with photography today. These two were quite
excited about the high water, and would never stand still
for a picture. |

|
| It didn't surprise me when Jude entered the water
here.
The "shelf" made for easy wading, while Latte'
anxiously
looked on. What did surprise me was when Jude swam
out into the brisk current. Though it immediately took
her downstream, she had no trouble making her safely
back to shore. |

Here she paddles upstream against the shore current.
Latte' waded in a bit but decided against braving the
current like her mother. |
| |
|
|
| Instead, Latte' ventured out onto some logs and
found herself in a different kind of peril. She
struggles here to turn around, which was never
actually accomplished, and she ended up plunging
into the water. She had no difficulty swimming
the few strokes back to shore, though the experience
did seem to shake her a bit. |
